The Aldila MOI Proto™ shaft is designed to maximize the performance of the new high MOI heads. Combining nano technology and a novel design approach called Nano Enhanced Tip Technology™ (NET2), Aldila is able to achieve the increased aMOI (area moment of inertia) required to offset the unique bending and twisting loads high MOI heads have on shafts. The improvement in the aMOI of the lower section of the new MOI Proto™ is done in a manner that also substantially improves the cross sectional stiffness in this section of the shaft, adding even more stability to this crucial area. The new MOI Proto™ also incorporates Aldila’s Micro Laminate Technology™ (MLT) and the tapered profile design philosophy first used in the NV™. This means the Aldila MOI Proto™ has great control, power, and stability, but with that silky smooth MLT feel.
This new shaft is the answer to the oversize high moment of inertia (MOI) drivers.
"Players favor the high MOI drivers because of the clubhead's ability to resist rotating about a given axis when the ball is struck some distance from that axis", said John Oldenburg, Aldila's Vice President Engineering/Product Development. "The higher the mass MOI (mMOI) of a body, the less it will spin due to a given applied off center (off axis) load. Simply put, miss the sweet spot and the head doesn't rotate as much, hence the ball goes straighter. This is absolutely awesome if you're a golfer but not so hot if you're a golf shaft."

TIP TRIMMING FOR ALDILA MOI PROTO WOOD SHAFTS
TIP TRIMMING (then butt trim to final length)
|
Add hosel bore-depth to length of ferrule, subtract length from 4" to obtain tip trim length. Trim to final playing length from butt. Example, hosel bore-depth of 1.75" with .375" ferrule, equals total of 2.125" - subtract from 4.0"; tip trim 1.875". |
